Good luck, New Orleans

8 o'clock, August 29, 2005

And Mississippi, too.

Comments

Looks like New Orleans was spared the worst of it; but the mississippi coast is *gone*.

As in, the coastline has temporarily moved in by more than a mile.

Eep.

If you're still in a mood for switching up your topic icons, I'm thinking that there fig leaf looks a tad bit understated for today's "Nature."

That was definitely a "maybe I spoke too soon."

Oh hell.

It probably still could have been worse. If the levees had broken with the eye over the city...

—— David Moles, 1:34 PM, Tuesday, August 30, 2005

Aye. But it's hard to imagine "worse" when the flooded shelters are being evacuated in face of a rising tide, by order of the city government-in-exile.

The governor's ordered everyone out of the city. Hard to imagine they'll be able to plug the hole in the levee before the city is covered.

It doesn't look good. And the stories I'm reading about life in the city over the past 72 hours are horrific.

You know what’s freaking me out, is all the highlighted links with text like Watch the video account of unanswered screams.

—— David Moles, 2:46 PM, Tuesday, August 30, 2005

I can't bear to click on those. Just knowing that it may have happened is horrible enough. It's like certain images of 9/11 which I have tried to block out ever since . . .

—— Dave Schwartz, 4:17 PM, Tuesday, August 30, 2005

I haven't summoned yet the courage to click on those.

—— aphrael, 4:21 PM, Tuesday, August 30, 2005

I don’t really feel any impulse to.
