So who’s going where?

  • Worldcon, I think I pretty much know who is and isn’t going . . . anyway at the moment I’m in full travel-dread mode and kind of expecting the whole thing to go by in a jet-lagged blur. (I used to love traveling. Now I just like being places. What happened? I must be getting old.)
  • CascadiaCon/NASFiC, anybody? (Please?) I know if nobody shows up it’ll be my fault for running it down (¿¡Airport hotel!? ¿What’s wrong with you people? ¡Aaargh!), but still, come on, we’ll find a way to make it fun. And you may get to see the Twenty Epics cover in the art show. Or just come up to Seattle and skip the con.
  • World Fantasy: I wasn’t planning on it ’cause after Glasgow I’ll be down to, like, two vacation days, but people keep saying “I do believe in Madison! Clap your hands!” So who’s going? Maybe I could skip Christmas this year.

Comments

Like I said on Saturday...get a critical mass of WisConiacs at WFC and it'll be like having WisCon twice in one year. Now, what would rather have? Christmas or two WisCons? hmmm?

—— Deborah, 1:45 PM, Wednesday, July 20, 2005

I'm going to Worldcon. I'm not sure about WFC. The only reason I can consider WFC is it's only a couple hour's drive.

—— Scott Janssens, 2:11 PM, Wednesday, July 20, 2005

We'll definitely be at WorldCon. I think we're going to do most of our touristy stuff Wednesday and Thursday, so we may not be sighted until Friday. Depends.

World Fantasy is up in the air. We have a hotel room, but it completely depends on The Finances, as so many things do.

—— gwenda, 3:30 PM, Wednesday, July 20, 2005

I'll be at WFC, but not WorldCon or that other crazy thing you mentioned. Come back to Madison! Come back, come back!

—— Dave Schwartz, 4:27 PM, Wednesday, July 20, 2005

I've done the vacation day math and World Fantasy should be a go for me.

So, you should do that one.

—— Hannah, 4:58 PM, Wednesday, July 20, 2005

Worldcon, definitely.

NASFiC, definitely not.

WFC... still waffling. It's opposite OryCon, my home town con.

—— David D. Levine, 5:24 PM, Wednesday, July 20, 2005

No con for me for another year in a row. Events of the year, combined with my finances, have conspired to make me a hermit.

—— JeremyT, 5:43 PM, Wednesday, July 20, 2005

Sorry, I won't be around till next Wiscon. But keep the party going till I get back!

—— Christopher Barzak, 6:16 PM, Wednesday, July 20, 2005

My only con plans for the rest of the year are for World Fantasy, right here in Madison! (I believe, I believe, it's silly but I believe.)

—— Karen, 7:26 AM, Thursday, July 21, 2005

I think it's just Glasgow for me. Though, man... two wiscons...!

—— Benjamin Rosenbaum, 8:10 AM, Thursday, July 21, 2005

I would really like to make all three.

However, the only one I've bought a membership in and made travel plans for is WorldCon.

NASFiC will be the fifth anniversary of SH's launch, so I really ought to go and we really ought to have an SH party. Also, it's in my time zone so I could probably just go up for the weekend and not miss too much work. Which would be good, 'cause after WorldCon I'll have something like negative two weeks of vacation time.

WFC, I just don't know about. I wasn't thrilled with last year's in various ways, but...Madison! Another chance to hang out with cool folks! Just don't know.

—— Jed, 10:24 AM, Thursday, July 21, 2005

Thanks for steering me over here, Jed!

I've got a hotel room for WFC but amn't sure yet whether to buy a con membership. Depends. Hannah, have you got a roommate yet?

—— SarahP, 12:20 PM, Thursday, July 21, 2005

Brilliant notion, Jed! I’ll help.

Skipping Christmas is looking better and better . . .

—— David Moles, 12:26 PM, Thursday, July 21, 2005

I'm not going to any cons for the rest of the year. I'll be on a beach in Hawaii on my honeymoon during WFC. And I can't say I'm sad about the trade-off. :)

Should hit at least WisCon and Worldcon in 2006, though.

—— Tim Pratt, 1:17 PM, Thursday, July 21, 2005

Worldcon - big yes
WFC - still on the fence
NasFic - no

—— chance, 1:46 PM, Thursday, July 21, 2005

SarahP, I have no roommate. I also have no membership yet, but will be fixing that this weekend. Are you looking/do you have space? I've had all my shots...

—— Hannah, 3:44 PM, Thursday, July 21, 2005

WFC, yo.

The rest, not so much. I don't get to go conhopping nearly as much as I'd like.

—— Nicole J. LeBoeuf-Little, 4:57 PM, Thursday, July 21, 2005

No Cons for me this year. Trying to save my pennies.

—— Jon, 5:48 PM, Thursday, July 21, 2005

I'll be at WFC. I have an IHG award to lose.

—— Nick Mamatas, 12:15 AM, Friday, July 22, 2005

I'll be at World Fantasy -- that's it for conventions for the rest of the year.

But since I'm touring, I'll also be in S.F., Iowa City, Salt Lake City, Madison, Milwaukee, and New York in the next two months. Come to my readings! Save me from a room full of empty chairs! I'll buy you coffee afterwards...

—— Mary Anne Mohanraj, 5:03 AM, Friday, July 22, 2005

Worldcon - damn straight! I can walk to the bloody Con from my house. So... native guide available for tours of dubious hostelries. Payment in Guinness.

Was hoping to do World Fantasy but it looks like all the rooms are booked in the hotel (or I'm a complete incompetent at filling out web forms).

—— Hal Duncan, 7:33 AM, Friday, July 22, 2005

Hal, don't worry about the hotel--when I tried to book online at the Concourse for Wiscon, it claimed that every single room type was empty. When I phoned them up, it turned out they actually had plenty of rooms available...their web forms just suck!

Alas, no WFC for me...but WorldCon, yay! Patrick and I will be there.

—— Stephanie Burgis, 7:44 AM, Friday, July 22, 2005

damn you people going to worldcon. Though I believe it's in LA next year? So I guess I've got to stick around for at least that long here in LA.

I really want to go to world fantasy. It all depends on the finances. And someone letting me sleep on their floor. Or on that fancy couch in the govenor's suite. that was a damn nice couch.

—— Meghan McCarron, 7:26 PM, Sunday, July 24, 2005

I can get a roll-away. They're cheap.

Next question: Should I show up Thursday and leave Monday, or show up Friday and leave Tuesday? Who else is planning to stick around Monday night? (Showing up Thursday and leaving Tuesday doesn't look like an option, I'm afraid.)

—— David Moles, 9:13 AM, Monday, July 25, 2005

Since you asked... I'm not staying Monday night, but then I'm not exactly the life of the party, so who cares. Ha! Arriving Wednesday night, leaving Monday morning. My timing is dictated by the whims of Amtrak and Greyhound, because for some reason I decided this was a good opportunity to snag some experience points by doing something I'd never done before and take the train.

So is a 19-hour coach class trip going to be unmitigated hell? (I already know the Greyhound portion of the journey will be uninspiring, but it's somewhat shorter, on the order of 4ish hours.) Should I be quaking in my boots? Should I bother putting on some boots, so I can quake in them?
