Why Chip Delany is a genius4 o'clock, July 11, 2005Prof. Delany, as paraphrased by Hannah: Desire as holding genre together. It’s why there are women, because some people think they’re incredibly sexy and that's what keeps them coherent as a genre. Also men, lightbulbs, sf, etc. (It’s the word lightbulbs that really makes it. But think about it. What’s a lightbulb? What are the boundaries between lightbulbs and non-lightbulbs? Why? What do people want out of lightbulbs that isn’t satisified by LEDs or flurorescent tubes?) (Dammit, if this keeps up I’m going to have to get and read that damned Norton Anthology of Theory and Criticism.) |

Ah, but Deborah, it's at the intersection of Analog and Derrida where it gets wacky... :-) |
|
Exactly — after all, Analog’s very name points toward the impossibility of situating SF within a constraining discourse of binary oppositions. |
|
So, maybe I need to stand at the corner of Analog and Derrida with a sign that says "Caution: Genre Crossing," and sell copies of Polyphony? Hmmm. I like it. |
|
Or maybe with a sign that says "Caution: Genres Collapsing." And sell lots of copies of Polyphony. |

¿Qué Haría Borges? ¿Maybe Larry Niven’s Dhalgren? |
David, if you start going all semiotics-Derrida-two term terms of opposition-Kristeva-Lacan on us, you can expect an intervention toot sweet.
I'm mailing you a case of back issues of Analog as a precaution.
