You know you’re living in the 21st century when . . .11 o'clock, January 5, 2005. . . you’re diagnosed with an antibiotic-resistant staph infection and you haven’t even been in a hospital lately. Still, at least it’t not necrotizing fascitis. Yet. |

Nobody does it like the Bruce, do they. After I read your link, I spent the day compulsively washing my hands. |
Yeow...get back to nineteenth century health good and soon, dude. |
I hope that you get well soon! |
Ah, brave new-old world. Think good thoughts, rest, etc. |
Won’t know for sure till the cultures come back from the lab, but yeah, MRSA looks most likely. I expect I’ll be fine; I’m on trimethoprim /sulfamethoxazole, which is generally supposed to do the job. And as my doctor pointed out, if all else fails, Civil War era medicine did occasionally work. (“What you did with the X-Acto knife was actually correct. Bold, but correct.”) Does get you thinking, though. And washing your hands. |
Bring on the leeches! Anyway, judging from what I see at toddler school, death-monster staph infections are all the rage for 2005. Compulsive hand-washing is the new black. |
Feel better, dude! |
Did you play with a turtle? I bet you played with a turtle. Get better, and put down the turtles. |
Okay, after reading Bruce's article I now want to go home and curl into a fetal position. Jesus. Hope you feel better soon, dude. |
Hey David, how are you? Antibiotics and sulfates working? |
I think the antibiotics are working. I’ve been feeling vaguely hung-over since I started taking them, so I know they’re doing something. Maybe I should try to scare up some of those steroids they’ve been giving you with the chemo. :) The, ah, affected area looks to be getting better, or at least not any worse. And feeling like bleh did give me an excuse to sit around and read all weekend instead of starting my ambitious spring cleaning program. I blew through Quicksilver and The Confusion in about three days, so I guess my mind hasn’t been affected. |
Community-acquired MRSA? You're probably safe from the necrotizing. (Though it does happen.) (Rarely.)
Feel better.
