Forty-one point six cubic inches

5 o'clock, September 22, 2004

More than eighteen tablespoons of solid paper! That’s how much book you’re gonna get when All-Star Zeppelin Adventure Stories hits your shelves. That’s 48¢ a cubic inch — 38¢ a cubic inch (or 88¢ a tablespoon — that’s cheaper than saffron!) if you order direct from Wheatland Press.* How can you beat that?

*Plus shipping, handling, and applicable taxes.

Kevin J. Anderson calls it “The year’s best collection of zeppelin stories!” — and he wrote the novelization for Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow, so you know he knows whereof he speaks. Twenty authors. Four hundred pages. Dozens, nay, hundreds of zeppelins. All for one low price.

All of this is to say that the text and layout are finalized, the cover painting is dry, and some time in the next week we should have the final files to the printers.

And then I am going to get so smashed.

Comments

Woohoo! I am so looking forward to this.

Man the mizzens! Pass the gas! She's going up boys, all the way up!

I'm probably most curious to see what retro-pulp by Forrest Aguirre will be like. (Can't wait to find out!).

Incidentally, my copy of Polyphony 4 has a vague Play-Doh aroma to it -- it would be cool and nostalgic if ASZAS came like that too!

Careful what you wish for, Robert!

If you want to read something *really* good, I'd suggest "Five Irrational Histories" in Rabid Transit #3, by Sir David Moles (who, if he isn't already knighted, should be). Now that's good stuff! Oh, and "The Soul Bottles" forthcoming in Leviathan 4 by Sir Jay Lake. That's where the real talent lies.

Forrest;

I have Rabid Transit #3, and have been eyeing Leviathan 4. To be honest, I'm actually a little surprised these days when I pick something up and don't find Jay's name in the ToC :)

Thanks for the recommendations!

If you’ve got RT: Petting Zoo, let me also again call to your attention “How to Write an Epic Fantasy” by David Lomax.

And in re Mr. Aguirre’s contribution to ASZAS: Be afraid. :)

^^"How to Write an Epic Fantasy" is truly... epic. If I recall correctly, I ended up reading it in two sittings and actually felt tired afterwards. If you can find twenty stories that pull off something similar, your "Bite-Size Epics" will be spectacular. I always love Mary Rickert's stuff, and of course your own "Five Irrational Histories" is why I bought the book.

And in re Mr. Aguirre’s contribution to ASZAS: Be afraid.

Oh believe me, I am ;)

There's a novelization for Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow? While the movie was exactly what I wanted it to be, the novelization - just in concept, mind you - scares me.
