Which spaghetti westerns? And what'd you think of them?

Hmm. I bought Bubba Ho-tep during the big "Help pay Nightshade's creditors" sale, simply based on the name. Interesting coincidence.

“For a Few Dollars More” and “The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly”. I saw “A Fistful of Dollars” in Florida — the DVDs were going cheap at a mall somewhere between Orlando and Daytona Beach.

What did I think? Hmm . . . They all suffered from poor sound quality (dubbed and re-dubbed) and the hand-to-hand fights (possibly because of bad foley) were laughably bad. The cinematography was pretty decent.

“The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly” didn’t really work for me, which surprised me since it’s supposed to be such a classic. It had some nice bits, but the pacing was uneven, the plot wandered all over the place, and I had the Devil of a time trying to figure out when and where it was supposed to be set.

I think I liked “A Fistful of Dollars” — the earliest — the best, because it was the most tightly plotted, and because I couldn’t get over the fact that it was actually filmed in Spain. :) I did like Lee van Cleef and his interplay with Eastwood in “For a Few Dollars More”, but I think it suffered from not having a villain who could match them watt for watt.
