The People’s flag is deepest red

2 o'clock, November 26, 2003

Sometimes Google serves up the weirdest stuff:

Long viewed as a symbol of communistic repression and a threat to the West, the flag of the Soviet Union, with its Hammer and Sickle, attests to the prophetic destiny of God on this great nation.

  • Hammer: “Is not my word like fire and like a hammer that shatters the rock?” Jeremiah 23:29
  • Sickle: “Thrust in your sickle and reap for the harvest of earth is ripe.” Revelation 14:15
  • Star: “Until the day dawns and the Morning Star arises in your heart.” 2 Peter 1:19
  • Red Flag: “The blood of Jesus.” He has redeemed every nation . . . every nation shall serve Him. 1 Peter 1:19

— Jay Rodgers, “Mikhail Gorbachev: The True Meaning of the Soviet Flag”, April 1991.

Comrade Rodgers is apparently also the distributor of the educational videotapes “God’s Law and Society” and “The Beast of Revelation Identified”.

Does this mean you and I alone will be the stalwart and true updaters over Thanksgiving weekend? Update, people, update!

At this particular moment the thing I find google most idiosyncratic on is the word "proof". See, a really fine bourbon of 147 proof is one thing, but the Pythagorean theorem is another entirely. We don't need to debate which is more fun.

Also, the proof is in the pudding, and the exception proves the rule. Although not so much according to Google: that seems to be more "x-proof" meaning proof against x, and—hmm. The word "proof" has just gone all wonky on me. It no longer looks like a word. I think I'd better stop.

I’ll see what I can do, Gwenda; but since I’ve been awake for 32 of the last 36 hours, I may be a little slow. (Memo: No matter how good an idea it seems when you’re booking the tickets, no itinerary that involves the one A.M. to Minneapolis is going to seem like a good idea on the day.)
