film

Is all hope lost? No.

Not only is Lost in Translation funny and touching, it nails my home town of record (well, one of them, anyway) almost perfectly.

Plus, you get Bill Murray singing “More Than This” and “(What’s So Funny ‘Bout) Peace, Love, and Understanding” in a Shibuya karaoke bar. What more do you want? Go see it.

Comments

My sweetie has been bugging me to go see it, so we will (prob'ly tomorrow).

I'm glad you took my recommendation. I may see it again before too long.

I’m not sure what it says that I’ve gotten to the point where I’m identifying with a character like the one Bill Murray plays. I’m still only 30, for Christ’s sake! :) (At least for the next couple of weeks.)

You're a lonely, disaffected drunkard? :)

Yeah, I saw this film over the weekend, too. It felt like a melancholy mood piece to me...not much in the way of plot, and little of the dialogue was memorable. Just two sad, lonely fish out of water who find each other, hang out for a few days, eat shabu shabu and sing karaoke, then wistfully part.

It was a good film, but not a great one. Some of the comic bits were funny, but others felt like sitcom set pieces.

Still, I'd agree with David on the recommendation.
