TorCon: Who’s going?

8 o'clock, August 8, 2003

I’ll be arriving early Friday evening and leaving midday Monday; staying at the Fairmont Royal York. I know Greg, Jed, Scott, and Jay Lake are going to be there — who else? (Hot wings?)

Comments

Despite the tasty temptation, I won't be attending TorCon. Too much traveling recently.

(this announcement has been brought you by the letter 'T')

I will not be there; it's not on the west coast. :) I'll be going to San Diego Street Scene instead.

Oh, dude, you had to bring up the hot wings. Ow. I can't go. Have fun! I wish I could go. Hoist a brew and a handful of wings for me, would ya?

—— Mike Jasper, 10:37 AM, Friday, August 8, 2003

Speaking as a native San Diegan, Rob — you’re a loser. :) (And I don’t care who they have lined up to play; it’s still San Diego.)

Mike, I’ll definitely turn over a plate and a pint glass for you. You, too, Jon.

Dave - San Diego isn't so bad. As a native Angeleno, it's better than Los Angeles, and better than the central valley; it's the only place in the state outside of the Bay Area and the north coast that I can deal with.

And i'm going for REM and Nickel Creek. :)

—— aphrael, 11:04 AM, Friday, August 8, 2003

Now, see, I would just see Nickel Creek in SF at the Palace of Fine Arts, and not bother with R.E.M. at all. (Between my rock-hard grudge over “Monster” and the loss of Bill Berry, I ’m not sure I’d cross the street to see R.E.M.)

Better than LA (sorry, Greg!) or the Central Valley is not exactly a ringing endorsement. :) And have you read the Union-Tribune?

—— David Moles, 11:24 AM, Friday, August 8, 2003

The Palace of Fine Arts show wasn't announced until a couple of days ago. And REM at the Shoreline sucked, but they might be fun live. And the carnival atmosphere of a live street music festival is always fun. :)

Heather and I can't go -- we pretty much blew our con-going budget in the first half of the year. But drink beer for us, and eat some wings for me! And a piece of celery or something for Heather.

Aw man, there's going to be *hot wings*? Conventions -- or, really, cities in general --should publicise these attractive features better if they want more people to come.

I think those of us not attending should have a world-wide chicken wing munchfest that weekend, in solidarity with our brethren and sistren at Torcon.

—— Karen Meisner, 1:52 PM, Friday, August 8, 2003

I’m just assuming there are going to be hot wings, that being (as of Conjosé) the tradition and all. And Toronto’s not that far from Buffalo.

If not, one of these years we can always descend on EerieCon.

(Just for the wings, of course. I don’t want to be developing Obsessive Convention Attendance Disorder at my time of life.)

—— David Moles, 2:47 PM, Friday, August 8, 2003

Oh, there's gonna be hot wings, alright. Don't even think there ain't gonna be hot wings.

—— Greg van Eekhout, 3:41 PM, Friday, August 8, 2003

I did a quick search for Toronto hot wings, and it looks like there definitely are wings. Though it also looks like we might need to take a cab.

—— David Moles, 3:59 PM, Friday, August 8, 2003

Not going to Torcon, wish I could afford it...

—— Vera Nazarian, 5:41 PM, Friday, August 8, 2003

I'll be there. And there'll be a SH/Ideomancer tea party. And there may be a SH reading.

—— Mary Anne, 12:30 AM, Monday, August 11, 2003

Sorry to hear that, Vera. Hope I run into you somewhere else before too long.

Mary Anne, glad you’ll be there — I was starting to think it was going to be all bad news (except, of course, for the hot wings).

Of course, given that you’re only on the other side of the lake, you’d have to have a real good excuse. :)
