Mysterious deaths, bear-baiting, etc.

1 o'clock, July 18, 2003

So on NPR this morning I hear two rather disturbing things, both of which get passed over very quickly. The first — the mysterious death of British government advisor and former UN weapons inspector David Kelly — has since been adequately reported, but the second has not been explained to my satisfaction: something along the lines of “Congress declined to ban bear-baiting on federal lands.”

Bear-baiting.

Bear-baiting.

(Okay, I understand they don’t really mean bear-baiting. But still.)

Update: For some weird reason, this particular post is a prime comment spam target, so I’ve turned comments off.

Maybe they meant "bear-bathing". :)

Or bare-bathing. With this Congress, you never know.

they ment bear baiting you dumbasses. It is when hunters lure bears to an area with doughnuts and other good things to eat and then shoot them at point blank range. Sick huh?

We can read. It’s funnier the other way, that’s all.
