Hypochondria

8 o'clock, June 1, 2003

Okay, if my digital thermometer’s to be trusted, it’s not SARS: my temperature’s two degrees low instead of two degrees high. But it still sucks. I should be writing, but instead I’m sitting around coughing, blowing my nose, playing video games and watching DVDs. And I’m going to have to go to work tomorrow, regardless.

But I got my contrib copy of Say... what time is it? yesterday. That was all right. Not only does it have good stuff in it, it looks good, too — a big hand to the Fortress of Words crew for design and art direction and editorial acumen.

Kelly Link blows the rest of us out of the water, of course. But that’s only to be expected.

are there any medications proven to treat hypochondria? Do people with the disease also have other mental problems that are hand in hand with hypochondria? How do you live with someone with the disease?

To tell you the truth, I don’t know. You might want to check out these web sites and see if any of them are useful.

I have OCD, anxiety, and hypocondria. I would think that a hypocondriac probably has fear besides just health. Ask yourself these questions: "Am I afraid of spiders? Am I afraid of heights?" Those are two normal traits but not everyone has them. You might just be above average with levels of anxiety. Fear is often genetic.

I have lived with hypochondria for years. I have consulted with a doctor from Norway. His name is Ingvard Wilhelmsen. He runs a clinic in Norway to treat this disorder and he has a very high success rate. I live in the states and can not afford to travel to Norway for treatment but maybe it will help someone else.
