New Amsterdam

7 o'clock, May 21, 2003

New Amsterdam it’s become much too much
Till I have the possession of everything she touches
Till I step on the brakes to get out of her clutches
Till I speak double Dutch to a real double duchess

—— Elvis Costello, “New Amsterdam”, from the album Get Happy *

Okay; except for this computer, I’m all packed for the Sprawl.

I guess that means it’s time to jack out.

Y’all have fun at WisCon, y’hear?

* It was either Elvis or it was Fear’s “New York’s All Right If You Like Saxophones.” And I’m just not that angry.

Not being a cognoscentus, I must ask: What On God's Green Earth is "the Sprawl"?

I'm guessing David is off to the east coast/NYC, which William Gibson described as pretty much one big city in NEUROMANCER.

Or maybe he's hopping in in timeship and going back to 1984... ;)

"Even old New York was once New Amsterdam,
Why they changed it, I can't say,
People just liked it better that way..."
