After the End of History10 o'clock, May 19, 2003Ken Macleod has updated 1066 and All That to cover the Reagan-Gorbachev 80s and the brief decade or so of the New World Order, with hilarious results. The second thing Gorbachev did was to introduce Russia to the market. The problem was that Russia did not have bourgeois civility, so after it was introduced to the market it did not know what to say to it. Instead it stood about with its hands in its pockets, until it found that its pockets were empty. Its pockets had been picked by the Russian Mafia, which is just like the Sicilian one, except it is not Roman Catholic so does not have a Godfather at its head. Instead it has Ministers, like Protestants. I can’t link to the actual entry — or rather, I can, but something bad seems to be happening to Blogspot’s archives, so you may have to start at the top. |

That's beautiful. I found it fascinating how the Soviet Union had been so stuck on creating Big Impressive Important Stuff that, by the time it became just Russia again, there were no usable domestic good being produced. Heck, even the map of Russia that I bought in St. Petersburg had been made in Finland, for Pete's sake! |

Blogger doesn't automatically archive when you add a new post. You have to *manually* tell it to do so or wait for the end of whatever your archival period is. F-ing lame, if you ask me. |
|
And they still generate a link to the archive page? Sheesh. Let me know when you want to switch to MT. :) |

sometime after we ship, so, say, mid-June. :) |

I will have MT reinstalled on discontent by then...it automatically converts blogger archives! —— Brandon, 11:07 AM, Tuesday, May 20, 2003 |

Cool — I wasn’t very enthusiastic about the reverse-engineering that would have been needed to port them by hand. :) |
I can't even get into his regular site. The DNS Eight Ball is coming back, "Try again later."
Ah well. And so I shall.
